Adolescents are rarely excited to go to counseling, especially when there parents are asking them to go speak with a professional. Adolescents have to be reassured that what they say in counseling stays between the counselor and them. That does not mean that parents are not allowed to know what is going on with their child. Parents are allowed to know some details but rarely specifics unless the child is suicidal or going to harm someone. It takes patience on the counselor to engage the adolescent considering they are already distrustful of adults. It is crucial that the parents are involved in their child's lives. At times when children do not get the attention they need they may act in behaviorally in order to get attention. If your teen is experiencing changes in behavior or mood, contact a professional in order to discuss the issue.
