There is a misconception in counseling that people have to have a serious mental health issues in order to come to therapy. People often wait and even consider counseling services weeks before they may make an appointment. Also people tend to think that they should not be worried or concerned because they don't have "real problems" compared to others in the world. The nature of counseling is to help people discover how to live and interact with their surroundings in a way that brings about good mental and physical health. Taking that first step to call or make an appointment with a counselor is not a sign of weakness but rather a strength. This is because someone has identified that they have something they want to work on, which in turn could improve their life.
